Web Part pages do not show the Quick Launch bar by default. This can be really confusing to end users who are used to the convenience of navigating using the Quick Launch bar. You can use SharePoint Designer to override this setting and show the Quick Launch bar on a Web Part page.

Lists and libraries can be hidden from end users using SharePoint Designer. This does not secure the list or library, but just makes it invisible so that end users are unable to navigate to it.
